1608!!! Bushmills 10 y.o. single malt whiskey
Today i`m on irish wave /maybe because of the wet and foggy weather/ and after Connemara i decided to ubdergo another experiment – this time with a product of Bushmills. The Old Bushmills Distillery is a distillery in Bushmills, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in which on statistical data live not more than two thousand people. It is owned and managed by the company „Diageo“/not anymore/, and is a popular tourist attraction, with around 120,000 visitors per year. A licence to distill in the area was granted to Sir Thomas Phillipps in 1608 by King James I, and that’s why the 1608 date is printed on the labels of the Bushmills whiskey.
After the opening lines, it’s time for the essential presentation. Perhaps each one of us have drunk a Bushmills whiskey – either the one with a white label or more expensive and rare types. This one is single malt whiskey, aged in bourbon barrels, which in turn ensures that the whiskey will have a light vanilla flavour. The color is ripe pear, golden leaf. In the beginning I couldn’t catch the aroma characteristics. After the first glass / yes, I’m drunk / and the „washing“of its walls, the fruit scent of the drink combined with a fragrance of malt, has revealed before me. The flavour is soft, slightly spicy at the same time, honey and fruit /some liken it of apricot and peach taste. Aftertaste – honey, fruit and dark chocolate. I was very pleasantly surprised by this feature – minutes after the first sips, in my mouth has reigned the chocolate greatness of the malt drink, in particular – the aftertaste is of a dark chocolate with high cocoa content. Furthermore, I gradually felt on the tongue a noticeable sweetness, the same as that after the consumption of a quality chocolate or sweet. I wondered whether Bushmills has revealed this choco-taste only before me and it turns out that others also had experienced this effect /it also was marked as a distinctive feature in the site of Bushmills/. In summary – a quality drink at acceptable price in the range of 40-50 lv., which I liked and predetermined the assessment 5/6. Would I like taste it again – absolutely! Cheers, mates! 🙂
