Yamazaki 10 y.o. single malt whisky
In the previous article I presented you a new Japanese friend of mine – Nikka Yoichi 10 y.o. single malt. The following lines are dedicated to another good whisky – Yamazaki 10 y.o. single malt.
Yamazaki distillery is located in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture. Opened in 1923, and owned by the Suntory company, which owns a number of other distilleries in the world. The data show that the Yamazaki whisky occupies top spot on the Japanese market in the sales of single malt whiskies. Why? Jump to the next line and let’s see. 🙂
I tried a distillate with 40% alcohol content and with nice dark golden color. The aroma is delicate, fruity and liquer. I felt vanilla, oak, notes of mango and caramel. Even a slight smell of coffee. I allowed myself to add some water and then the aroma became even more fruity and unlocks beautiful raisin flavours. What gave me the greatest pleasure was the memory of homemade apricot jam, which I liked to spread on the delicious, warm pancakes when I was a child /and i still do/. The taste is sweetish and peppery. Also stand out and slight oiliness, nuts and bitterness. After adding water the apricot sweetness became outlined and the piquancy retreated and the whisky acquired slight wine taste. The aftertaste is long, marmalade, slightly sour and bitter.
In conclusion, with a safe conscience I give 86-87/100.
