Blanton`s Single barrel special reserve straight bourbon
In two consecutive articles I’ll meet you with „Buffalo Trace Distillery“ products. The first article dedicated to „Buffalo trace“ bourbon can be found here. In this one I’ll present you „Blanton’s single barrel special reserve“ – the treasure of „Warehouse H“.This bourbon is a remembrance of the Colonel Blanton’s life, which is inextricably connected with the distillery history. The Colonel became famous for creating his specially selected and limited bourbon, only accessible for a number of people and stored in the so called „Warehouse H“. Blanton’s namesake bourbon has been introduced for commercial sale in 1984 /when I was born :)/ and ever since, worthily presents the distillery over the world.
And now, almost 30 years later I got it in my hands. I was eyeing it for a long time. I’m not hiding that it was a long-awaited meeting. Probably the reason is in the interesting metal /it really is/ figure of jockey, which differs depending the type Blanton`s. The bottle fits nicely in the hand. Its tubby body perfectly fulfill my palm. I was even more pleasantly surprised by the quality workmanship of the bottle. Stylish label, indicating the number of the cask in which the whisky was matured. And the above mentioned cap really impressed me. Under the metal part is hidden cork, which perfectly covers my glass. But enough about the „exterior“. Let’s talk about the nature of the liquid.
The color, at the risk of repeating myself, reminded me of dark gold, probably of wheat stalk. The aroma is strong and pleasant. I caught light fruity nuance – likened it to a pear. It’s also sweet with sensible honey note. The scent of the liquid is pleasantly warming and intoxicating, leaving the impression for nuts /almonds/. I felt and light caramel. The taste is expressive, and slightly spicy. Light bitterness, combined with thin sweetness, caressing the palate, honey and wood. The taste is slightly oily. The aftertaste is prolonged and warm, almond, and later appeared and sweetness which reminded me of delicious candy. Ultimately, I was satisfied with the bourbon and it justified my expectations.
