Tullamore Dew Heritage whiskey
Until recently, the representatives of the Tullamore Dew brand were absent in the blog and not because I don’t like them, but because of the simple reason I didn’t have time to touch them. The „silence“was broken and last week I presented you Tullamore Dew 12 y.o. whiskey, my notes for which you can read by clicking on its name. Now is the time to present you and the rarer looker – Tullamore Dew Heritage whiskey.
I found the bottle in bar Caldo and not without the help of Mladen /the owner of the place/, who directed me to it for which I thank him, as the liquid inside turned out to be quite pleasant and I undoubtedly enjoyed the time spent in its company. What can I say about the bottle – it is made in the style of the company and corresponds to the design line from a few years ago, when most of the brand’s representatives „lived“ in shorter bottles, and now it seemed to me that their appearance changed, alongside with their labels. „Heritage“ itself is defined as collector’s bijou and not just because the label states that the master blender has a hand in its production. This distillate is relatively rare and its release on the market is related with the opening of the so-called „Heritage centre“ in the town of Tullamore, at the beginning of the new century. I red that each bottle comes with its own numbered certificate, so if you buy one ask about it, if it doesn’t being presented to you. Although there is no indication for the years, I came across data stating that the whiskey inside is at the age of about 8 years, the prevailing part of which is pot still whiskey. The liquid matures mainly in Spanish oak casks, but it spends the last 6-9 month of aging in bourbon barrels. So far everything sounds perfect. There is valuable distillate with an interesting history, which is also repeatedly awarded /in 2001 was pronounced best Irish whiskey, and in 2006 won the gold medal at the Wine and Spirit Competition/. In the following paragraph, containing my brief notes, I’ll try to present you the things practically.
Aroma. Gentle, sweetish, peachy, partly caught and plums, nectarines. It had the nice smell of bourbon. I caught and memory of pepper, which hinted about its light pepperness and spiciness. I perceived also and slight citrus, vanilla and woody presence in the aroma of the goody. Taste. It seemed dry to me /maybe because of the sherry/, slightly spicy, honeyed, fruity, woody, slightly bitter, but with pronounced sweetness. The finish was moderately long. In my mind emerged burnt sugar, butter /in contrast to the dryness of the taste/, sweetness, which after a minute or two became even more perceptible, chocolate and toasted notes.
Assessment: 87/100.
In conclusion. The whiskey is really mellow and pleasant, and if you get the chance, do not hesitate to taste it. Personally, I would repeat it, I even think whether to seek a bottle of it. I came across a price of about 60 lv. for a bottle of 0.700 ml. I would love to read and your notes or information about possible lower price. 🙂
