A „bouquet“ of Four Roses single barrel
It began in 1888, when Paul Jones, Jr., the founder of Four Roses Bourbon, became smitten by the charm of a Southern beauty. It is said that he sent a proposal of marriage to her, and she replied that if her answer were “Yes”, she would wear a corsage of four roses on her gown to the upcoming grand ball. On the ball she appeared with a corsage of four red roses and later they became a symbol of his bourbon „Four Roses“.
Romantically, isn’t it? But does the liquid in the bottle is as beautiful as the unknown Southern damsel? In the beginning I can’t hide the pleasant surprise from the bottle of a single barrel on whose label is indicated also the number of barrel-source. A fact, which makes you feel special to a certain extent. In addition to the unusual shape of the bottle and the cork, the colour of the liquid also has impressed me – predominant shade again was the brownish, amber hue, but mixed with a touch of orange. The scent is unobtrusive and carries allusions for lightly smoked liquid, containing spices. The taste … I don’t hide that I was pleasantly surprised by the ordinary bourbon of series „Four Roses“ and I was expecting a nice taste. Though, even in my wildest dreams, I didn’t imagine that the taste of a single barrel can be so expressive. The density of the bourbon can be felt from the first sip. By „density“ understand „greasiness“ if you wish. I felt like drinking cooking oil /endorse this liquid due to its consistency and density /. The expressive taste gradually conquer the mouth and few seconds after the swallowing, it seemed as if I could follow the path of the goodies through my body. The deceptively light and mild taste has grown into clear internal heat, which however shouldn’t scare you. On the contrary, in a great way this has revealed the essence of the particular drink, pointing that I’m dealing with liquid of class, which, as can be entirely friendly to me, also is able to entangle my legs if I don’t show the necessary attention and attitude. Have in mind that the whiskey is with alcohol content of 50%. The aftertaste revealed the mystery around the product of Four Roses, bearing memorable and prolonged finish, nicely caressing the palate. Briefly – Four Roses single barrel is whiskey, which every connoisseur of bourbon should taste at least once and then to repeat, sharing it with friends. Assessment – 5,5/6., which is influenced by the relatively affordable price – ranges in between 40-45 lv.
Cheers and consume it with moderation and mood! 🙂
Several days I was feeling under the weather and I had to rest. Fever or cold, I’m not sure what it was, but hopefully I’m back on track. 🙂 And, because it’s almost #christmas we all know miracles happen. The example: I wasn’t in a #whiskey shopping mood today, but suddenly I was teleported by the malt gods in a warehouse, where I found these beauties by accident. I love #fourroses straight #bourbon , especially its single barrel variation, bottled at 50% ABV /yup, we don’t get the special editions/ , but I found the former bottling. The juice was distilled in the mid 90s and bottled on 18.06.2003. at 43%. So this good fellow was kept in secret for more than a decade. #springbank #10 years old is a solid dram and I got extremely happy when I got the version with the white label, which I assume was on the market 10-15 years ago. There’s a small note in the box, stated that Springbank has just acquired #glengyle distillery and is planning to start production until 2004. The acquisition happened in 2000s, so I believe this bottle was the brand’s flagship at that time. And the last bottle I bought is the lovely #bushmills #16 y.o. #singlemalt . I know it’s not the best money can buy, but I love it. It offers hefty #port and #sherry influence. Not bad for #thursday , right?
