Kavalan Solist single malt ex-bourbon cask
In the previous article I had the opportunity to share my impressions of the basic level of whisky brand Kavalan – Kavalan single malt whisky, which I liked. A nice whisky that would fit perfectly to people willing to experiment. Now I will pass to the next level with the premium positioned Kavalan Solist ex-bourbon single malt whisky.
Besides single malt, the whisky from Solist line is also and such with an alcohol content straight from the barrel – single cask strength, 58,2%. This suggests a deep stock of aromas that can be released with the addition of water drops. The first whisky of the line is aged in bourbon barrels and its age is about 3 years. I had the chance to taste it at the Whiskey Fest. Here’s what I think about it:
Aroma – sweetish and spicy, gingery, cinnamon. I also caught vanilla, chocolate, honey, banana, mango. With water became more fruity and woody. Taste – peppery, honey, butter cake layer and caramel. After the drops of water, which can be more in this case, unleashed sweetness, more honey, dried exotic fruits and light bitterness. The finish is of medium length, honey and cinnamon, sweetness. The added water bring a stronger vanilla, butteriness and a childhood memory about slice of bread with honey and butter.
Assessment: 84-85/100.
