Highland park 30 y.o. single malt whisky
Highland park 30 y.o. single malt whisky – the last whisky from the line of Highland park which I’ll present you /for now/. One of the most interesting whiskeys that I had the chance to taste at the Whiskey fest. Thanks to the organizers that provided this opportunity. I hesitated whether to fit it in the previous article dedicated to the younger HP 18 & 25 Y.O., but it seems to me that the whisky deserves an individual post, regardless of its volume.
Before I step forward ot the core of the presentation, I will share that the whisky earned my respect and for another reason – at the time of writing the article it is still older than me. It may be so in the future, as I suppose in the bottle are hidden and more mature distillates of Highland park, but if we assume that all the available malt beauty is at the age indicated on the label, then at the present moment the liquid seems to be my „elder brother“. I want to make one more clarification – the review is based on my notes from the Highland Park Masterclass, and therefore they are more laconic. I’m sure that if I have the chance, I would „investigate“ it more thoroughly and in more peaceful environment, eliminating the emotion from the Fest itself.
The whisky is with an alcohol content of 48,1%, but taking into account its age I did not allow myself to add water. The aroma is delicate and pleasant. Notes of citrus, toasted, caramel /noticeable/, mild smokiness, slightly spicy, woody / the so called „hints of cupboard“ as I call it/, sherry. Taste – soft, slightly peaty, woody and acerbic /left the impression of „crumbs“ in my mouth/. Finish – medium, dried fruits, sweetness and slight chocolate. I would not engage myself with assessment. I have something marked in my notes, but based on such short meeting would be incorrect as to extol it so and to „criticize“ it. The whisky deserves attention and in-depth look. Three decades of aging in sherry casks could not be evaluated by a sip or two, so instead of giving an assessment in the form of rating, I will only say that I liked the whisky. Maybe not as much as 25-year-old distillate, but I definitely liked it. So, if someone wants to surprise me for my birthday, already knows how. 😀
Following the great #tasting I attended, I made the call and ordered several seriously delicious #singlemalt whiskies. #highlandpark #25 and #30 years old, bottled at 48% are extremely good malts, which I adore. Sadly, they’re #discontinued. #wwavcollection #whiskey #sherry #bourbon #spain #scotland #bulgaria #whiskeyporn #whiskyporn #blog #review #hobby #love #macallan #edrington #orkney
