Glenfiddich 12 y.o. single malt whisky
But let’s not hurry. At the risk of repeating myself, I will quote the factology about the history of the brand, which I’ve already placed in the previous reviews of Glenfiddich. The company, whose name means ‘Valley of the Deer’, was founded in the late 19th century by the company of William Grant & Sons, which owns it and presently. It is located in Dufftown, Speyside. It is alleged that the Grant family have built the distillery building alone, as the only help they have received was from a quarryman. In the beginning, the distillery operated with the equipment of the old Cardow distillery /now Cardhu/. The situation is now different and Glenfiddich has a huge own power, able to produce 10 million liters of alcohol, and probably even more. In addition to the triangular shape of the bottle /introduced in 1957 and designed by Hans Schleger/, known from Grant’s whisky, the Glenfiddich brand has gained popularity and with that, being one of the most awarded, if not the most honored brand Scotch whisky. Moreover, namely Glenfiddich are responsible for the promotion of single malt whisky, as they marketed their first single malt distillate in 1963, and this was the first distillery in Scotland to open a visitor centre in 1969. At present, Glenfiddich can be found in approximately 180 countries, as the whiskies are especially popular in the U.S. /along with those of Balvenie/. Undoubtedly the 12-year-old distillate has been instrumental to the success of the brand, so I head to my notes.
Aroma – green apples, grassy and fresh notes, honey, light aromas of dried fruits, fruity liqueurness, caramelized bananas after some time in the glass, vanilla cream, creme brulee, sweetness, woodiness, very light peat /not Islay style, but rather similar to this at Glen Grant, but in smaller doses/, buscuits /natural/, caramel. Taste – oily, very gentle and nice peat again, mild spiciness, dried fruits, which in the taste dominate over the green notes – in this case apples, sweetness. Finish – short to medium, sweetness, fruits, honey, butter and the mentioned apples, maybe and slight banana notes.
