Hello 2015!
The transition from one year to the next is usually the time for balance and wise words. Wisdom is not something I understand and therefore I will write a few lines about what I managed to do in 2014, in the field of whiskey, resp. is there something I missed. I will mention my favourites among the tasted distillates, which I will divide into categories “ The most delicious malt from Scotland“, „The most delicious malt from the rest of the world“, “ The most delicious Irish whiskey“ and “ The most delicious bourbon/ Tennessee whiskey“. I go make myself a cup of coffee /though the clock shows seven minutes after the beginning of the 2nd of January 2015/ and we agree to meet on the next line.
So. First sip of the midnight coffee and I almost forgot about the cold outside. 2014 is already in the past. I don not like the changing of the years. Not because I’m „getting old“. I just got used to write it and now comes the time to put the new calendar. Out of this lyrical deviation, I will say, that the past 365 days were very interesting for me. At the beginning of January, almost like a joke, I started this blog. Writing articles and tasting whiskey was, is and will be a pleasure for me, but about the time of summer season I ceased my activities. The reasons are different. The most significant was that I had other things on the agenda, but gradually I got a huge dose of inspiration and support from the people around me /especially my girlfriend/ and at the end of August I decided to fulfill the promise that I had given – to promote the blog. With most of you, my friends, we met for the first time in September, when I wrote an article №40, which was the starting point for the divulgation of my activity. One more thing happened. During my visit to Corfu I accidentally stumbled upon a rare bottle of Famous Grouse – Famous Grouse Vintage 1989, 12 y.o. malt whisky. I managed to bargain for a good price and I brought it in Bulgaria. Along with it, I felt the need to engage seriously with the blog again. You can see the bottle in question, in the photo above.
The bottle is not of the highest collectible level, but it was enough push for me, to continue with writing. Not long after that, I managed to write the minimum of articles that I had set myself to the end of the year – I reached the number of 100+ reviews. In this endeavor I met support from Whisky Bar Masterpiece, Bar Caldo, the online store Tobacco bar, whereby I managed to find some of the distillates for reviews. On the last Whiskey fest I found very interesting drinks, some of which I have already presented to you, and the rest are to be reviewed. Therefore, I eagerly wait for the Whiskey fest 2015, which I’m sure will be even more opulent and interesting. And before I proceed to my personal rating of 2014, I want to interject that next month I’ll attend another interesting event, details of which will be posted later.
And here came the „winners“. Here enter fanfares and trills. 🙂
In the category „Best or most delicious malt from Scotland“ I set two personal winners: Dalmore 15 y.o. single malt and Bruichladdich 17 y.o. single malt.
You can find their reviews by following the links. After them I would place Glendronach 18 y.o. single malt and Scapa 14 y.o. single malt. This doesn’t mean that the other single malt distillates are bad. The listed ones just pleased me more.
“ The most delicious single malt distillate from the world outside Scotland“. Surprisingly or not, the winner is Hellyers road single malt whisky, coming from Tasmania. A whisky, without an age statement, but complex and pleasant. Surprise.
“ The most delicious Irish whiskey“. I hesitate between two whiskies of Jameson: Jameson 18 y.o. whiskey and Jameson 12 y.o. Distiller`s selection. Both worth the time and money.
And finally – “ The most delicious bourbon/ Tennessee whiskey“. My favourite is Eagle rare 10 y.o. single barrel bourbon.
In general, I think I gave a completed outlook of the descriptive article dedicated to the year 2014. Before I move forward to the next review, I want to wish you health, happiness, love and good luck in the new 2015. And may we meet increasingly often in person or through the pages of the „Temple“. 🙂
